    CAPTURING A LEGEND

rickenbacker 3SCARBEE RICKENBACKER® BASS captures the unmistakable sound of a Rickenbacker® 4003 for the first time in software. Delivering meaty, low end thunder and the crisp, defined midrange that has shaped rock and pop history, RICKENBACKER® BASS is the first software instrument to be officially approved by Rickenbacker®.

Painstakingly sampled by Thomas Skarbye, ideal for distortion, and the first SCARBEE bass to be played with a pick, RICKENBACKER® BASS delivers all the character and versatility of the original in an ultra-flexible, completely authentic KONTAKT instrument.

SCARBEE RICKENBACKER® BASS runs in KONTAKT and the free KONTAKT 5 player.

    THE BASS

rickenbacker 4To create SCARBEE RICKENBACKER® BASS, a Rickenbacker® 4003 with stainless steel Rotosound strings was recorded direct into Pro Tools with premium Mogami cables and a Metric Halo LIO-8 preamp, assuring every nuance of this legendary bass came through in pristine quality.

Picked articulations available for the first time in a SCARBEE bass provide the crisp tone heard on countless rock and pop records since the 60s. Avoiding Rickenbacker®’s integrated foam muting system, palm-muted articulations were created with the pick hand positioned over the bridge, ensuring the realism of a true performance. Open picked articulations were played between the pickups, and both were recorded using the unique Rick-O-Sound stereo output for classic Rickenbacker® tone.

    HEART OF TONE

A unique KONTAKT effect chain adds the final component to this authorized Rickenbacker® instrument with the newly implemented Jump Amp from GUITAR RIG for extreme tweakability, and tape saturator, equalizer and compressor from the SOLID MIX SERIES for pro studio effects.

    A BASS ODYSSEY

Rickenbacker 4SCARBEE RICKENBACKER® BASS is based on the Rickenbacker® 4003, released in 1980 as the successor to the 4001 model that had been in consistent use since 1960. Already famous as a ‘mix sitter’ against a wall of guitars, the 4003 greatly improved the bass response of the 4001’s neck pickup to give it the balanced tonal response it has become famous for. The crisp, thunderous tone of these basses has been immortalized on some of the most successful rock and pop albums in history, and now it’s at your fingertips.

Rickenbacker® and the "R" Design are among the trademarks and service marks in the United States and other countries of Rickenbacker International Corporation and used with kind permission.

    SCARBEE AND NATIVE INSTRUMENTS

rickenbacker 5Thomas Skarbye is a highly regarded bassist whose sound design brand has become synonymous with quality and playability. His sampled instruments have become the first choice of top producers and musicians worldwide. To help create this Rickenbacker™-approved instrument, Thomas once again brought in Nils Liberg – the same scripting wizard behind SCARBEE FUNK GUITARIST, ALICIA’S KEYS, and SCARBEE MM BASS.

The Scarbee and Native Instruments partnership have released numerous instrument libraries for the industry-leading sampler KONTAKT and the free KONTAKT PLAYER. With SCARBEE's renowned precision and level of detail, producers can expect a line of premium instruments across the musical spectrum.

  • FEATURE LIST

    • Playable in real time – with the exception of cross hammering and trills all of the articulations in the list given further below can be triggered without the need for any keyswitches. Eg. Hammer-on & pull-offs are triggered by legato playing and fast grace notes by fast legato playing.

    • A powerful user interface that pushes the Kontakt user interface to its limits: a fretboard display gives an overview of the playing position and for each string what fret and articulation (displayed as a unique symbol) that are used & dynamically updated as you play.

    • All four strings sampled, thousands of samples and up to 20 velocity layers to capture the full timbre of the bass.

    • Each string is monophonic so new notes replace earlier notes, giving a perfectly realistic bass.

    • Automatic string selection – play and the script selects the most suitable string for you. Use keyswitches to limit the string choice or to move the active playing position (placement of left hand). The automatic string selection is tailor-made to work well with every articulation.

    • Automatic alternation of right hand index and middle finger samples (can also be controlled using keyswitches).

    • Convenient keyswitch mode – a keyswitch effects the following note or remains active as long as it’s pressed – making it easy to quickly return to the default mode of operation.

    • Slide mode – play a note legato while holding the sustain pedal pressed to trigger a slide. The velocity will determine a slide speed anywhere between 60 to 480 bpm. Slides use real interval transitions sampled in three different speeds for realism and employ a new technique invented by Skarbye/Liberg to significantly reduce RAM usage. Slides are available for every interval up to an octave down and up from the current note. It’s also possible to play multiple slides consecutively going up and then down alternately.

    • Chord mode – makes it possible for notes to be automatically assigned to the right strings even if the notes of a chord don’t arrive exactly at the same time.

    • The sound of Mr. Scarbee’s own fingers and pick.
    •
    • Bass recorded DI to give you maximum flexibility in the sound production.

    • EQ and Effect Presets – direct in the instrument user interface.

    • Integrated documentation for all settings – direct in the instrument user interface.

    Sound On Sound

Sound On Sound has given SCARBEE RICKENBACKER® BASS a fantastic review: "Superbly crafted and carefully sampled, with first-class sound quality. Extremely expressive and realistic. The instrument is capable of producing a vast range of tones with no external plug-in help. Cons? In my opinion — none! Scarbee’s Rickenbacker Bass is expressive, a doddle to use, sounds highly realistic and sits effortlessly in a mix. It’s especially well suited to rock and pop styles, lending them authority and drive“.
